Ak’Tenamit, The Guatemala Tomorrow Fund, is an established  indigenous community development organization based nearby. The Guatemala Tomorrow Fund promotes long-term solutions to poverty through programs in health, education and family income generation. It operates a boarding school that teaches academic and vocational skills, with all students completing a practicum in hospitality/ecotourism or sustainable development. Ak’Tenamit provided the inspiration for the development of APROSARSTUN and continues to provide volunteers.

For many years Aprosarstun worked with the American organization, Ecologic, on sustainable development projects benefiting the environment. Even though the work of Ecologic has ceased, the benefits of this work continues in the communities and in the expertise of the organization.

APROSARSTUN worked to facilitate the work of Contour Lines Corp. in the area. Contour Lines is an organization that works to extend the ecological mindset and to promote reforestation and regenerative agriculture making agreements directly with groups of farmers. In each project, locals are quickly trained and involved in projects planting trees, cultivating food systems and transitioning landscapes to restore ecosystems. https://contourlines.org/

Managing Project Funding

  1. Strengthening of Agrobiodiversity in the Region, a project implemented through the Indigenous and Peasant Agrobiodiversity Program in Central America (PAICC) executed by ACICAFOC and funded by the German Ministry of Cooperation through KFW Bank.

Forest nurseries were established with native seeds to establish 25 acres of agroforestry plots worked by 50 agriculture producers. This project contributes to preserving local biodiversity and traditional agriculture systems.

Family gardens were established in the project growing oregano, cassava, sweet potato, onion, lemon grass, tomato, macal, mint, chiltepe chili, ginger, celery, habanero chili, and others, which are important for the local food diet.
